Cape Soap’s Washing Powder boosts water’s cleaning powder. It is a concentrated, unscented, and efficient, economical alternative to most household washing products. It is made with only two essential, dry, active ingredients: our ‘Cape Soap’ off-cuts and Soda Ash.

BENEFITS:

Our Washing Powder is multipurpose:
It can be used for hand or machine laundry, dishes and surfaces.
It works to lift and remove stains, dirt and dust.
It also degreases and deodorises.

It is concentrated:
A little powder goes a long way. This high concentration allows us to reduce packaging and clutter, but it may take a bit of time to get used to how much is needed for what. We hope the guidelines below will assist.

It is economical, earth-friendly and sustainable:
Less water is used in the manufacturing and packaging processes, and it has fewer ingredients, is non-toxic and has a reduced carbon footprint.

HOW TO USE:

Keep a small jar by the kitchen sink for easy access when cleaning dishes and the larger jar in your laundry area.
Works best with warm water (30-35°C / 86-95°F) but will work with cold water.
Concentrated. Wear gloves.
Dilute using approximately one teaspoon (1 tsp) of powder for 15 litres (15l) of water. With experience, you will find the best dilution ratio for your needs.
Rinse well with clean water.
Add a dash of Vinegar to the rinsing water for a perfect finish.

A word of caution: our Washing Powder contains Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash), an irritant.

  • Keep out of reach of children and animals.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • Avoid inhalation and ingestion.
  • Wear gloves.
  • Corrosive to aluminium.
  • For oak and chestnut woods and very delicate fabrics such as wool or silk, wash with cold water and make sure you add Vinegar to the rinse cycle.

Preparation / Instructions:

FOR LAUNDRY:

  • Sprinkle approximately one heaped teaspoon (1 big tsp) of powder directly in the machine’s drum before adding the clothes, or add to a bucket of water and wear gloves if washing by hand.
    Rinse well.
  • Optional: add a glass of Vinegar to the rinse cycle for a perfect finish. No smell will remain.
  • Important: the amount of washing powder will vary depending on the machine type and the laundry’s dirtiness. It is important to allow for good agitation of the clothes (do not overload) and a good rinse (do not use too much washing powder). We suggest that you start with one heaped teaspoon (1 big tsp) and experiment with your machine and laundry until you find the ratio that works for you. A maximum of two tablespoons (2 Tbsp) per load is recommended.
  • Do not use too much washing powder! If the laundry is very dirty, it is more efficient to do a pre-soak in a bucket of warm water with two teaspoons (2 tsp) of powder, shake, wring out, rinse, and then do your normal wash.
  • If your water is ‘hard’ (mineral-rich), add two teaspoons (2 tsp) of our natural Soda Ash to boost the washing powder’s effect.

FOR WASHING DISHES:

  • Put one teaspoon (1 tsp) in the detergent container of your dishwasher.
  • When washing dishes by hand, add half a teaspoon (1/2 tsp) to a sink or small basin of warm water. Soak for a few seconds or minutes, depending on the dishes’ dirtiness. Wear gloves. Scrub. Rinse with clean water.
  • Add a dash of Vinegar to the rinse water for a perfect finish.

FOR SURFACES:

  • Add 1 or 2 teaspoons (1-2 tsp) to a bucket of warm water and use with sponges, scrubs, and mops. Clean as you would with any other product.
  • Add a dash of Vinegar for a perfect finish, or alternate with a vinegar wash depending on the surface and dirt.
